Personality: At first glance, Hisoka appears to be the kind of person that is cold, distant, and ill-tempered. This isn't an entirely wrong impression to come away with, but there are layers that support this outward self and protect a kinder side to him. His difficult nature stems from the challenge of being an empath and a life marked by neglect, abuse, and trauma. Despite his reserved and often distant manner, he has a great capacity to care deeply for others. Still, his immaturity and temper can get out of hand at times, particularly in fairly tense situations, and he acts rashly when it does.

Negative and snippy comments are not uncommon when it comes to dealing with Hisoka, and it comes easily to him to say what comes to mind when there's no risk of showing any vulnerability on his part. He isn't afraid to dryly complain about or even actively berate the coworkers that have become his first friends in all his life. His partner, Tsuzuki, is the first and most frequent victim of his grouchiness, but Hisoka is quite sure that he's entirely justified given the other death god's apparent fecklessness. He doesn't mean much by it when it comes to the people that he knows well, a fact that his coworkers have all figured out by now, but he won't admit that. More complimentary comments from him are rare, and he's easily embarrassed when people catch onto his softer side. Hisoka's likely to just act even more standoffish if he's caught at being fond or sentimental.

Hisoka enjoys quiet activities like reading, and doesn't take kindly to interruptions. He's never been particularly sociable, so it can take a special effort to get him out and interacting with others during his free time. His empathy as much as his upbringing lends to his desire to keep away from social events, though sometimes he really doesn't mind them in carefully metered doses. He's bound to protest and probably be all kinds of socially awkward, of course, but that doesn't mean it isn't a good experience for him.

Even with his prickly behavior, he tends to maintain good relations with his coworkers and is rather fond of them. It doesn't come naturally to him, but he's been learning to trust and even start to open up. Tsuzuki, in particular, is someone that he's grown to care deeply for. His judgement tends towards being hit or miss, particularly in matters that involve his relationship with Tsuzuki. He's weak in constitution, but is frustrated when he feels that he's being condescended to or treated like a child. Often, he makes up for his weaknesses through sheer stubbornness. It isn't uncommon to see him push himself harder than he should right up until he collapses under the strain.

Recently, he had developed something of a fixation with becoming stronger, strong enough that he could pull his own weight and be a real help to his partner, but the consequences of his desire for power were devastating. He's seen the results of stubborn recklessness, and has learned the hard way that he'll get other people killed if he doesn't try to think his plans through better. He hasn't put it all together yet, but he's got a great deal to work through as he matures and moves forward after making such terrible mistakes.

Abilities:
Empathy - Hisoka's empathy is powerful to the point that he prefers to avoid crowds and physical contact with other people as he could easily be overwhelmed. Generally, he's able to read the emotional state of other people, but can also able to pick up thoughts. However, it can be physically painful for him to do so.

He's demonstrated an ability sometimes referred to as "synchronizing" with another person which allows him to share his own strength or powers with another person. He has significant raw psychic power and has caused injuries with his power that resemble burns. He also has some sense of clairvoyance, sometimes able to 'read' objects to obtain impressions of events or emotions that occurred in their vicinity.

Magic - He's able to perform some ofuda (talisman) and defensive magic, including minor wards and the ability to banish a spirit/demon from the body of a possessed person.

God of Death - Like all death gods, Hisoka has the ability to be invisible (but not undetectable) to humans, to fly, to travel between the worlds of the dead and living at will, and physical regeneration. He has been known to combine his physical regeneration with his empathic powers to heal severe injuries that others have sustained at the cost of his own health. Gods of death aren't immortal, but they can take a lot of damage until their ability to regenerate is overwhelmed.

Mundane Abilities - Hisoka is trained in the traditional Japanese martial arts, including kendo and archery. He is also familiar with firearms. It's implied that he's multilingual, at least able to read in other languages beyond his native Japanese, and he's demonstrated decent investigative skills.

God/Shinki: Shinki
Why?: While Hisoka is a god of death in his canon, he's especially ill-suited to the challenge of being responsible for another person. It would be too much for him in light of the fact that he'd recently caused the death of a shikigami (a spirit summons) named Riko that had looked to him as a friend and master. Besides, he tends to operate better when he's being pushed into action.
Cause Of Death: Hisoka died of a lingering, painful curse that mimicked the effects of a degenerative illness.
Vessel: A white and green dragon with golden horns about the size of a medium dog.
Name Location: Low on the back of his neck.
Power: Empathic Projection. Allows his god to have the selective ability to project her own emotional state at others. The strength of this ability is dependent on proximity, and reaches its height with physical touch.
